Modelling portfolio fashion beauty shoot for Monique's folio with a classical feel of elegance.

A model's headshots need both to capture something of her/his looks and personality, but also give an idea of where she/he can take us. This image was one of four looks I created with the help of Karen Hopwood, one my favourite hair and makeup artists. Karen's talent and work ethic promote confidence that we would get the great images we aim for.
I have shot with Monique a few times (see older posts) and still have many more image ideas of her stunning red hair to "get on film".

Fashion swimwear shoot in urban location shows off Monique's edgy look

Shooting some swimear for Monique's portfolio in one of my favourite urban locations was a rewarding experience. The simple black onepiece swimsuit I shot her in emphasised her edgy and sexy look.

The more I look at this, the more I love it, it's the strength and intensity of the connection Gillian has with us through the lens that holds my attention. Something that is rare in today's world of anaemic and insipid images. A world where so many are scared to show emotion. We need strong images now more than ever, before we drown in this insipid sea of mediocrity that is flooding us. Bland is not something I want to endorse.

Katy is one of my favourite models because over time I've been able to elicit another side of her that she keeps tucked away, away until the mood strikes her. Then her deliciously sensous twin comes out to play.

 

Gillian's latest modelling portfolio headshots are head turners as I've come to expect.

We recently came together to produce some strong and I'm pleased to say not "on trend" images for Gillian's book and website. I say not on trend because "on trend" these days seems to mean flat, bland and uncommunicative imagery that is designed not to stand out, but to appease the lost, gutless people out there that are afraid of anything that says anything at all.
I want to celebrate what is different not what wants to "bland in". Today I see so many people in a powerfull position in this industry, wether art/creative directors, producers, agencies or clients that are so worried of what might put off, offend or just not please whoever they see as their target audience, that their ability to make meaningfull and definitive decisions is watered down by fear of "what if".
I've always been in favour of the "Lead, follow us or just get out of the way" school of thinking. We have enough sheep out there thank you!

Urban athlete takes her NIKE joggers through their paces as she trains throughout the inner west of sydney

Part of Sydney's industrial landscape and one of my favourite urban shoot locations yields a great grungy backdrop for anything from fashion to sports apparel. Even inspiring on overcast muddy days that other locations can't compare with. This rich collection of shapes and textures allways inspires me to create images with that edge missing elsewhere in this town.
